Elumale (2024) Movie Review

Elumale takes viewers to October 2004, a tense time along the Tamil Nadu–Karnataka border…

Revathi (Priyanka Achar), a spirited young woman from Tamil Nadu, runs away to meet her boyfriend Harish (Raanna) in Karnataka. They dream of a life together in Goa, but their simple plan is derailed when they are caught in a dangerous maze of criminal plots, police operations, and weapon exchanges in the dense forests.

As the lovers navigate this perilous journey, they become entangled with law enforcement officers, smugglers, and political intrigues, forcing them to fight for both their love and their lives.

Raanna shines as the determined and charming Harish, while Priyanka delivers a tender and authentic portrayal of Revathi. Jagapati Babu commands the screen as senior army officer Vinay Kumar, and Jagappa injects humor as the lovable constable Mantelinga. Standout performances by Kishore (P. Venkatesh Nayak Rakesh) and T. S. Nagabharana (Mahadevappa) leave a lasting impression.

The film’s multilingual dialogues—mixing Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and English—bring the region’s cultural tapestry to life. Authentic period details, from 2004-era vehicles and phones to border checkpoints, further immerse the audience. D. Imman’s music heightens the suspense, while the background score keeps viewers on edge during the lovers’ desperate journey.

At its heart, Elumale is a romantic thriller that balances the innocence of young love with the tension of a forest caught in chaos. Despite a few side plots that slightly stretch its runtime, the film succeeds in delivering a gripping, emotionally resonant experience.

For those who love romance with a pulse of danger, Elumale is a cinematic journey not to be missed.
